#12 LOCOMOTIVE

NPRM Engine #12, former PSNS #12. Built by General Electric in 1943 for the war effort, she served the US Navy at Bremerton shipyard until 1992 when she was surplused. The museum acquired the engine and it worked in shortline service for us until being delegated to yard service. NPRM #12 is what is known as a 65-ton center cab switcher and is designed to work in a railyard shunting cars and assembling trains. #12 has two Cummins 235 inline six diesel engines, one under each hood providing a combined power output of 475 horsepower. Each engine powers its own air compressor to charge the brake system, as well as each engine powering it’s own generator that supplies electrical power to traction motors located on each set of wheels.
Above the #12 is pulling a train to the North Pole during Toy Train Christmas so that kids can meet Santa Claus.
