BRIDGE 2

West end of Stampede Tunnel aka Martin Station under construction.  Note the narrow gauge track for hauling out the “muck” out of the tunnel.  To the right is bridge 2 of 30 bridges on the switchback.   Picture was taken on bridge 1 by A. Davidson, Jim Fredrickson collection, courtesy NPRHA

In all the clutter it is hard to see another short bridge but it is right of the main building. This one is not on the map.

The building houses steam and air compressors to run the pneumatic drills. Originally the drilling was done with sledge hammers and was found too slow. Pneumatic hammers were brought in within a few months and sped up the process.
